This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: mandibular teeth 40-67, mean 58 ± 7 in a functional row arranged in a straight line; primary premaxillary teeth 299-551; presence of elongate, finger like fimbriae on the ventral and posterior faces of the paired premaxillae, with some emanating from between the premaxillary teeth; miniscule, skin covered rudimentary eyes (diameter 0%-1.7% SL); depigmented pinkish skin with some bluegray dorsally, but without obvious pattern or markings; deeply forked caudal fin, with pointed lobes; and dorsal spine 12.9%-16.6% (Ref. 138252)
