Etymology: Schistura: Greek, schizein = to divide + Greek, oura = tail; an allusion to forked caudal fins (Ref. 45335); geisleri: Named for Rolf Geisler in appreciation for his valuable help (Ref. 39226).

Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range
Ecology
Freshwater; benthopelagic. Tropical
Asia: Chao Phraya basin, Thailand.
Size / Weight / Age
Maturity: Lm ?  range ? - ? cm
Max length : 3.2 cm SL male/unsexed; (Ref. 39226)
Dorsal soft rays (total): 12; Anal soft rays: 8. Distinguished by its unique color pattern: young (2-2.5 cm SL) with 5-8 dark brown blotches, usually longitudinally elongated along lateral line and 6-8 saddles along dorsal mid-line, while adults the saddles extend downward and superficial pigments are superimposed to the former pattern, forming a marmorated pattern; large hammer-shaped suborbital flap in males (its depth about half eye diameter); and thickened first branched pectoral ray in males (Ref. 39226).
Body shape (shape guide): elongated.
Occurs in stream with slow current and with depth never more than 30 cm during the dry season. Also found in shallow riffles over pebbles up to 5 cm in diameter, with clear water and moderate current. A female measuring 3.12 cm SL contained ripe ovulae about 0.7 mm in diameter (Ref. 39226).
