Africa: middle and upper Congo River basin in Cameroon, Republic of Congo and Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ref. 42019). Also reported from the Chiloango River basin (Ref. 41591) but Lower Guinea presence unconfirmed in Ref. 80290.

Occurs in rivers and inshore areas of lakes; sand, filamentous algae, vegetal debris, Povilla, insect remnants have been found in the stomach of this species; juveniles feed on cladocerans and small insects (Ref. 41580).
