Etymology: Acapoeta: Composed from the word "a" + the local vernacular name "kapwaeti" used in Georgia and Azerbaikhan (Ref. 45335).

It can be found in inshore rocky areas of Lake Tanganyika, and rapid sections of rivers; one of the most common species in the rivers (Ref. 4967). It feeds on aufwuchs (Ref. 28666).
