Ecology
Marine; bathypelagic; depth range 0 - 2000 m (Ref. 58302), usually 30 - 800 m (Ref. 51358). Deep-water; 40°N - 54°S, 85°W - 150°W
North Atlantic: north of 10°N. South Atlantic: southern tip of Africa. Also recorded from the Patagonian region of Argentina (Ref. 27363). Indo-Pacific: across the Indian Ocean north of about 23°S to west and central Pacific between 27°N and 23°S. South China Sea and water near Taiwan (Ref.74511).

Mesopelagic in depths exceeding 500 m (Ref. 7249) and bathypelagic (Ref. 58302). Females undergo diel vertical migrations (Ref. 7249).
