Etymology: Lycenchelys: Greek, lykos = wolf + Greek, enchelys, -yos = eel (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Georg Ossian Sars (1837–1927) was a Norwegian biologist. He was commissioned by the Norwegian government (1864) to investigate fisheries around the country’s coast. His main specialism was in crustaceans, of which he named many new species. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

North Atlantic: Scandinavian fjords from Skagerrak to Finnmark and Kola Bay; also Grand Banks off Newfoundland. Reported from Iceland.
