Western Indian Ocean: Red Sea, Comoros, and Reunion. Also southern Oman (Ref. 11441), Somalia (Ref. 30573), and the Maldives (Ref. 11303).

Common in and outside the coelacanth caves during the day, and at night it usually ascends to the coral reef at depths of 3-20 m (Ref. 58472).
