Etymology: Melanocharacidium: Greek, melan, -anos = black + Greek, diminutive, charax = a marine fish woithout identification (Ref. 45335); nigrum: Specific name refers to the black pigmentation covering the whole the body. Although omitted in Ref. 37059, Buckup (pers. comm. 28/08/03) informs us that M. nigrum was correctly included in the working manuscript..
