Etymology: Mixobrycon: Greek, myxo = to suckle + Greek, bryko = to bite (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Dr Alipio de Miranda-Ribeiro (1874–1939) was a Brazilian ichthyologist and herpetologist. Miller’s etymology says that Miranda-Ribeiro “…contributed greatly to the knowledge of the marine fauna of South America.” (See Alipio) (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
