Etymology: Acyrtus: Greek, a = without + Greek, kyrtos, -e, -on = bent + Greek, ops = shape (Ref. 45335); pauciradiatus: Specific name derived from Latin 'pauciradiatus', meaning having few rays, in reference to the dorsal, anal and pectoral fin rays, which have fewer rays than the other members of the genus.

Radios blandos dorsales (total) : 7 - 8; Radios blandos anales: 6 - 8. Distinguished from its congeners by having a reduced number of rays in the dorsal, anal and pectoral fins: dorsal-fin rays 7-8; anal-fin rays 6-8; pectoral-fin rays 20-22 (Ref. 54768).
Occurs in shallow waters on hard-bottom habitats that consist of areas rich in calcareous and brown algae, corals and sponges (Ref. 54768).
