Etymology: Phenacorhamdia: Greek, phenax, -akos = deceptive + Brazilian vernacular name, Nhamdia/Jamdia (Ref. 45335); provenzanoi: Named for Francisco Provenzano for his contributions to the knowledge of Venezuelan catfishes and extensive efforts in the study of Aro and Caura fish faunas.
