This species is distinguished from all its congeners by the following coloration and morphological characters: pored lateral line scales 21-28 (15-17 in the dorsoanterior series, 6-11 in the posterior peduncular series); head bright red, magenta washed; scales behind the pectoral fin purple slated, edged prominently in dark inky blue to indigo; dorsal two thirds of body ochre to yellow-brown (Ref. 126788).
Cross section: compressed.
Occurs in rubble zones with sporadic coral cover at depths between 8-20 m (Ref. 126788).
