Etymology: Microphis: Greek, mikros = small + greek, ophis = serpent (Ref. 45335)arrakisae: Named for Arrakis, a fictional planet from Frank Herbert’s novel Dune; this species is named after this planet due to its yellowish in vivo coloration, which resembles the color of sand, and its behavior of moving between rocks, akin to a snake or a worm.

Mjukstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt) : 35 - 38. This species is distinguished by having dorsal fin rays 35-38; tail rings 29-30; body coloration mainly yellowish (Ref. 132508).

Collected in the lower course of rivers with rocky substrates comprising a mix of pebbles and sand. This species appears to be an amphidromous species based on its distribution across several Indonesian Islands and from previous study on freshwater pipefish otoliths (Ref. 132508).
