Etymology: Protocobitis: Greek, protos = the first + Greek, kobitis, -idos = a kind of sardine; also related with the voice Greek, kobios, Latin gobius = gudgeon (Ref. 45335); longibarba: Name 'longibarba' from Latin words 'long' and 'barba', meaning 'long' and 'barbel', referring to the species' long maxillary barbel.

পৃষ্ঠীয় নরম পাখনা দন্ড (মোট ) : 7; পায়ূর নরম পাখনা্তুন্ড: 5. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: whole body, excluding head and abdomen, sparsely covered with minute scales; barbels elongate; 5-6 branched pectoral fin rays; four branched pelvic-fin rays; caudal-peduncle height 34.9%-58.6% of its length; head width 7.3%-10.3% of SL; head height 50.2%-80.6% of lateral head length (Ref. 133036).
