Dorsal soft rays (total): 16 - 18; Anal soft rays: 2 - 4. Similar to M. andersonii but more slender, longer snout and has fewer trunk-rings, normally 14 versus 15-17 (Ref. 48635).
Specimens known only from plankton samples collected by midwater trawl or surface dipnet. Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205).
