Etymology: Chaunax: Greek, chaunax, -akos = a conceited man (Ref. 45335);  viridiretis: Name a genitive noun phrase combining the Latin adjective 'viridis' (meaning green), and the genitive form 'retis' for Latin noun 'rete' (meaning net); referring to the greenish irregular reticulate pattern on the body surface..

Short description Morfologi | Morfometri

Taggstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt): 3; Mjukstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt): 12-2; Mjukstrålar i analfenan: 7. This species of the Chaunax fimbriatus group is distinguished by the following: slender cirri arising within interorbital, space and on lower part of the maxilla and supraocular membranes; spinules on dorsal surface relatively strong and stout, interspaces being shorter than their lengths; lateral-line neuromasts series: upper preopercular series 2-3, pectoral series 11-13, and body series, including those on caudal fin 32-35; gill rakers of second gill-arch 8-9; P 13–14 (mainly 14); ilicium short and stout. Colouration: when fresh, irregular green reticulate pattern on dorsal surface, with patches of small, bright white spots on interorbital space, head and origin of dorsal fin; mouth cavity pale and gill chamber blackish; esca yellowish green (Ref. 127469).
