This species belonging to the Lestidiops mirabilis species complex has the pelvic-fin origin (VFO) under dorsal-fin base and the anus farther posteriorly; dorsal portion of body and lateral line are covered with melanophores, but large unpigmented areas present on lower portions of head and abdomen; lateral-line scales: before dorsal-fin origin (PDLL) 32-33, before VFO (PVLL) 33-34, and before anal-fin origin (PALL) 47-48, total number of lateral-line scales, including large and small scales (TLL) 66-70; vertebrae: before dorsal-fin origin (PDV) 32-33, before VFO (PVV) 33-34 and and before anal-fin origin (PAV) 47-48, numbers of prehaemal (PHV) 34-35, caudal (CV) 44-45, and total (TV) 80; total number of gill rakers 42-44 (based on adult specimens). Juveniles without dark blotches or bands (Ref. 128666).
