Dorsal spines (total): 16 - 18; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8 - 9; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 7 - 9. Distinguished from other known species with horizontal stripes in snout shape, male coloration, and very acute dental arcade with sharp gradation in size of teeth from symphysis outwards. Closely resembles L. maculicauda but has a steeper snout, more acute dental arcade, fewer vertical bars, and different fin markings and coloration. Teeth in both jaws slender, elongate, and recurved. Pharyngeal teeth slender.
Occurs over rocky substrate (Ref. 6307).
