Snout with a secondary rostrum, with proboscis about twice as wide as long, reflected downwards and in contact with snout along its inferior side (Ref. 43281). A well-developed tri-lobed rostrum; 10 gill rakers on lower arch of first arch; dark body with random scales lighter; (Ref. 12693). Dark brown body with 5-6 faint stripes and a large dark blotch on caudal peduncle (Ref. 43281).
Occurs in swiftly flowing water over rocky bottoms. Feeds on periphyton, phytoplankton and insects. An uncommon fish in larger rivers and rarely caught by commercial fishermen. Can be taken with trawls over gravel substrate.
