Distinguished from congeners in Ireland by having obtuse snout, rounded dorsal profile and shorter lower jaw, included in upper jaw when mouth is closed. Additional character useful for identification is its body depth, 20-25% SL (Ref. 59043).

Lacustrine. Threatened due to eutrophication (Ref. 59043).
