Etymology: Acnodon: Latin, acus = needle + Greek, odous = teeth (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Anazildo Mateus de Sena was a Brazilian fisheries worker at Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, Manaus. During one of his last collecting trips, he collected the holotype of this species (1987). (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
