The caudal fin is well developed and separate from the dorsal and anal fins (Ref. 36382). Pelvic fins are jugular; the outer three rays are separate, thick, and elongate, extending well past the origin of the anal fin (Ref. 36382). Branchiostegal rays: 7-7 (Ref. 36382).
Body shape (shape guide): elongated.
Neritic, restricted to the near-shore water of continental shelves. Reaches depths greater than 1000 m (Ref. 37955). Adults feed on plankton (Ref. 36382). Oviparous, with planktonic eggs and larvae (Ref. 36382).
