Espinas dorsales (total) : 7; Radios blandos dorsales (total) : 9 - 10; Espinas anales: 1; Radios blandos anales: 9. Elongate second dorsal spine, 5 papillae in the anterior transverse interorbital row on each side, a total of 10 or more papillae in the posterior transverse interorbital row, a fifth transverse row of cheek papilla which extends ventral to the lower longitudinal row, which thus terminates anterior to it, and very thin (equal to a fin element in width) white bars on the head (Ref. 6189); characterized further by body with five faint white bars; white and dark bands on dorsal fins; absence of pelvic frenum; longitudinal scale series 25-26; ctenoid body scales; pectoral fin base and breast with cycloid scales; ctenoid predorsal scales 14-16; opercle with 2-3 rows of ctenoid scales; cheek without scales; well developed vertical rows of papillae on cheek; depth of body 4.9-5.0 in SL (Ref. 90102).
Inhabits rocky outcrops in areas with silt or mud bottoms in 15-20 m (Ref. 90102). Specimens taken from a muddy substrate.
