Facultative air-breathing in the genus (Ref. 126274); Occurs in rocky lake shore, particularly around man-made groynes or jetties. Found among aquatic plant meadows near the shore. Larvae and juveniles inhabit open water on lakes. Adults feed on insects and crustaceans, pelagic juveniles probably feed on zooplankton. Breeding is opportunistic (occurring at any time of the year), with a peak possibly occurring late in spring (Ref. 44894).
