Etymology: Antigonia: Daughter of Oedipus and Jocasta, who defied her uncle, king Creon, by performing funeral rites over her brother Polynices and was condemned to be immured in a cave (Ref. 45335)emanuela: Named for Ms Emanuela D’Antoni, FAO’s scientific illustrator; noun in apposition.
Eponymy: Lowe did not explain his reason for coining this name, but presumably it is derived from mythology as FISHBASE suggests: Antigone was the daughter of Oedipus and Jocasta, who defied her uncle, King Creon, by performing funeral rites over her brother [...] (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

This species is distinguished by the following characters:D IX; pectoral-fin rays 13; body deeply rhomboid with greatest depth 113.8-118.8% SL; premaxilla strongly bent in the middle; scales with deep apical crest armed with numerous spines arranged in several rows distributed in almost all lateral surface of crest. Colour of soft dorsal, anal and caudal fins in life bright-yellow (Ref. 123097)
