Rayons mous dorsaux (Total) : 61; Vertèbres: 42. This species is distinguished by the following characters: D 61, A 53, pectoral-fin rays on ocular side 8, caudal-fin rays 14; lateral-line scales on ocular side 74 while lateral line on blind side incomplete, with 14 scales; gill rakers on ocular side 2 + 4; vertebrae, abdominal 11 and caudal 31; a pair of large ocelli present on posterior body on ocular side; pectoral fin pale, with a distal black blotch (Ref. 122002).
A specimen was collected in the coral-reef lagoon of a fringing reef at a depth of less than 1 m (0-1 m), on coral gravel with scattered corals (Ref. 122002).
