Épines dorsales (Total): 7; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total): 8; Épines anales 1; Rayons mous anaux: 8. This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: cephalic sensory-canal pores absent; dorsal/anal fin-ray formula 8/8; pectoral-fn rays 14-15; no 5th pelvic-fn ray or rudimentary; urogenital papillae of both sexes non-fimbriate; five dark brown irregularly shaped (usually X- or Y-like) bars on body; two narrow diagonal red lines below the eye; anal-fin base with two reddish-brown spots; caudal peduncle without dark spots over preural centrum; caudal-fin base no crescentic marks (Ref. 130266).
