Etymology: Rhinolepadichthys: The suffix 'rhino', meaning nose, in combination with the genus Lepadichthys, refers to the pointed snout in members of this genus, which distinguishes the new genus from Lepadichthys (sensu stricto).;  geminus: Name from Latin 'geminus' meaning 'twin' or 'double'” referring to the two yellow stripes under the abdomen and its close morphological similarity to L. lineatus, with which it had previously been identified..
