Etymology: Coregonus: Greek, kore = pupils of the eye + Greek, gonia = angle (Ref. 45335)acrinasus: 'acrinasus'(Latin), i.e., 'acer' means pointed, and noun 'nasus' means nose; referring to the pointed snout which is a feature of this species (Ref. 123357).

It is a medium-sized whitefish with moderate pigmentation on its fins and body. The flanks above the lateral line are dark greenish-blue, with moderate to numerous small pigmented dots on the scales. It has a pointed snout tip, a long head, small eyes set in thick, triangular-shaped sockets, and numerous moderately long gill rakers.
