Etymology: Coregonus: Greek, kore = pupils of the eye + Greek, gonia = angle (Ref. 45335); intermundia: 'intermundia'(Latin), i.e., means areas between worlds, referring to the species being in-between C. litoralis and C. suspensus based on their ecology and morphology (Ref. 132404).

Short description

It is a medium-sized whitefish with moderate pigmentation on its fins and body. Its flanks above the lateral line are greenish-blue, with a moderate number of small pigmented dots on the scales. The species features a short head, a sub-terminal mouth, thick and triangular-shaped eye sockets, and a relatively short, stout caudal peduncle.
