Etymology: Pseudobarbus: Greek, pseudes = false + Latin, barbus = barbel (Ref. 45335); kubhekai: Name 'kubhekai' from Skhumbuzo Kubheka, whose sampling efforts discovered this new species from the Umzimkhulu River system.

a single pair of oral barbels; 51-56 scales in lateral-line series; fewer vertebrae and absence o dark spots on its back (Ref. 133015).
Cross section: oval.
The species inhabit streams with average width and depth of 3 meters and 0.5 meters, respectively. They dwell predominantly on boulders and cobbles substratum (Ref. 133015).
