This species is distinguished from all its congeners by the following set of characters: D1 absent, D2 I,12, A I,12; pectoral fin rays modally 16 and with one upper, very short free soft ray; vertebrae 17 + 20-21 = 37-38; head and body scaleless. Colouration: second dorsal fin is translucent with tiny brown spots; caudal fin has many tiny brown spots; anal fin is pale yellow and translucent, spotless, and darker in its rays; pectoral fin is creamy yellow with anterior 2/3 region with tiny brownish to black spots (Ref. 133050).
