This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: smaller maximum body depth; eye diameter 10-15%, caudal filament 26-44%, caudal vertebrae 60-65 (N = 11); anal fin rays 146-174; total length 74.5-111.7 mm; displaced haemal spines 2-3; ventral margin of the maxilla convex shape in adults and less convex to straight in juveniles (Ref. 133102).
Cross section: oval.
This species is found in streams with well-oxygenated water and slow currents. At rest, they dwell in shallow areas of 0.3 to 1.5 m depth in the dry season, futher characterized by the presence of dead leaves, leaf litter, vegetation cover, and tangled roots (Ref. 133102).
