Spine dorsali (totale) : 16 - 17; Raggi dorsali molli (totale) : 9; Spine anali: 3; Raggi anali molli: 7 - 8; Vertebre: 28 - 29. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: with a post nuchal hump; a conspicuous dark blotch covering superficial part of cleithrum above pectoral-fin base; with a dark anterior dorsal-fin blotch between 3rd to 5th spines (consistently present in live and preserved specimens); scales in lateral row 27-30; circumpeduncular scale rows 18-20; vertebrae 28-29; first gill arch with 9 rakers; no dark blotch on the dorsolateral aspect of caudal peduncle (Ref. 124777).
This species is found in association with Olyra saginata, Pethia expletiforis, Rasbora rasbora and R. daniconius (Ref. 124777).
